what the FUCK morrigan

• how i feel about this character

alright so holy shit i love dave strider with a burning passion. when i was mainly in the homestuck fandom he was pretty much my favorite for a multitude of reasons. 

one reason is that i felt like he was one of the more complex and layered characters in the series despite seeming very straightforward at first. all lame cool-kid jokes and layers and layers of irony and sick raps. he comes off as rather mature for his age except he isn’t. he’s like any other kid his age and i feel like it’s a very accurate portrayal of youth. he tries to be cool and fucking idolizes his brother and tries so hard to be like him, neglecting creating his own identity in the process. (he also reacts either very positively or very negatively to any attempts to people trying to get him to do this, like john getting him ben stiller shades which he wears 24/7 To This Day)

he uses irony to get away with a lot of uncool shit and pass it off as cool, as something any self-respecting coolkid like himself would do, and there’s a lot of fake bravado in that and it was very inspiring to me because dave strider basically said “don’t give a fuck about what people think just do it if you think it’s cool” which is something i have trouble with.

at the same time, he’s incredibly incapable of doing things on a sincere level and communicating this to others because he’s afraid of their opinions. anything he does is inevitably protected by about six levels of irony plus two more if people react badly to it, and he can tell them it’s all just an ironic joke he’ll drop later. he doesn’ teven use the term irony right. what a fucking DORK.

there’s a lot of character development and he has to struggle with himself a lot, literally too given the fact he deals with alternate versions of himself on a regular basis, a lot of which are fucking dead, and he handles it well at first but we can kind of see him struggle to keep holding up the overdone facade he has for the rest of the comic, even outright dropping it altogether at times and freaking the fuck out not five seconds later when somebody realises it.

that could just be how i see him tho but anyway i love dave?????? wtf

idk actually uhh. i think the fandom goes way overboard with how popular he is like give some of the other characters a chance too??? but
